Marriage is ours, the wedding is theirs. “It is the first lesson we must learn all newly engaged couples, and Lucia (America Ferrera) and Marcus (Lance Gross) are no exception. In OUR FAMILY WEDDING learning in the most difficult, that the road to “I do” can be fraught with family conflicts. Just back from the university, announced that they plan to wed in love, then find their parents-two and hyper-inflated ego could cause havoc in the most special day of their lives.
With insults flying right and left and anger to the surface, everyone wondered if these parents so peculiar (Forest Whitaker and Carlos Mencia) made it down the hall whole. While Lucia’s mother is busy planning the wedding of “your” dreams, the only balanced the party is Angela (Regina King), the best friend and lawyer of the father of the groom, who manages to stay calm, when madness reaches its climax.
With only a few weeks to plan the wedding, Lucia and Marcus soon discover that it is very true the saying: when you marry someone, you marry the whole family.
OUR FAMILY WEDDING is directed by Rick Famuyiwa, from an original screenplay by Wayne Conley and Malcolm Spellman and Rick FaRicky Fumuyiwamuyiwa, based on a story by Wayne Conley. The producers of the movie are Edward Saxon and Steven J. Wolfe. The director of photography is Julio Macat, ASC (WEDDING CRASHERS), the art director is Linda Burton (CADILLAC RECORDS), costume designer Hope Hanafin ([500] DAYS OF SUMMER), editor Dirk Westervelt (NOTORIOUS), the Transcenders music ( “Gossip Girl”) and is music supervisor Barry Cole (TALK TO ME).
A MULTIESTELAR CAST GIVES LIFE TO OUR FAMILY WEDDING
The director Rick Famuyiwa feels a special attraction for weddings. “The beauty of the wedding in general is that you’re surrounded by plenty of people who start out being total strangers and after ‘Yes, I’ are family.”
In fact, it is your personal philosophy on love and marriage that led to the winner of the Sundance Film Festival back to the altar, for a second round. “For me, nothing is more important than family, especially my wife and kids and he says nothing that I can replace them.” Famuyiwa The debut film, THE WOOD, was a comical look on marriage and male, told through the eyes of four best friends. OUR FAMILY WEDDING is a carefree approach on love, from the perspective of two incredibly different families, who are united when a young couple decides to marry unexpectedly. Impossible to get ready for the drama that awaits them!
“Weddings are full of energy,” says producer Edward Saxon. “I often meet generations and are inherently dramatic, because they involve two people about to embark on a major life change.”
The producer J. Wolfe agrees: “All weddings come to life itself.” “This focuses on two young people who are very much in love and decide to reunite their families only to discover that their parents hate each other! So ultimately, this is a movie about two opposing families, trying to find ways to get along. ”
“With my editor always jokingly say that the film really is a love story about two fathers Famuyiwa laughs,” because it is they who have to overcome major obstacles. ”
our family weddingIt was during the year-long process of writing the script that the director put together for the first time in his head, a “dream deal.” The New York filmmaker, who wrote the acclaimed drama TALK TO ME, reports that Forest Whitaker was always his first choice for the role of Brad Boyd. Brad, a prominent radio DJ in Los Angeles, is a quirky and modern divorced middle-aged people collect art, antiques and beautiful girls … while raising his promising son, Marcus (Lance Gross). The writer-director says he knew that Whitaker could be hilarious in the movie. “The comedy is about truth and there is none like Forest to extract the true essence of a character,” says Famuyiwa.
The innovative producers of the film, the Oscar ® winner Edward Saxon (PHILADELPHIA) and indie pioneer Steven J. Wolfe (500 DAYS OF SUMMER), were also big fans of Whitaker. They hoped that, overall, the possibility of returning to Fox Searchlight Pictures, the studio that released his movie won the Academy Award ® THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND-the twist being proposed by the film on the subject of Found family ideals and the challenge of interpreting a comic role to generate the necessary synergy that the actor would say yes. Whitaker accepted the role, excited at the chance to test their skills as a comic actor. “I have played many roles emotionally and psychologically complex,” he says so I thought it was a good time to explore a new streak. “Friends from his days as a student at the University of South Carolina also had been encouraging that married man father of four children to return to the comedy genre that has been practiced by that time.
“We do not often think of Forster as fun because we saw someone playing so many memorable and serious dramatic roles, as he did in THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND. But in reality, is an incredible actor and I think people will enjoy watching this side of the actor, who does not usually appear on screen. ”
In addition to the climate of the set, another benefit creative cast members was that Famuyiwa showed great appreciation for the art of improvisation. Thanks to your leadership style, enthusiastically embracing this art, happened on the set all sorts of things new and unexpected. “Rick is a beautiful, beautiful head,” says Ontiveros. “It gave us the freedom to incorporate our own ideas. That’s why the film is full of hilarious spontaneity.
